The skin’s natural functions will be stimulated improving the condition of the skin and the warmth created will help relax the body physically and mentally. Body massage originated in Sweden. Swedish body massage is the original massage technique involving a sequence of movements working superficially and deeper into the tissue layers. Movements such as effleurage work over the skin with the palm of the hand producing relaxation, whereas movements like petrissage work deeply. Petrissage movements such as wringing and kneading will help to relieve tension promoting deep relaxation in the tissues and muscles. As no two people are alike, the body massage sequence will be adapted to the client’s needs. Massage may be offered in the clinic for one hour or half hour treatments, treatments may also be described as back massage, stress massage, all being adaptations of a Swedish body massage.
Deep Tissue Massage / Sports Massage
This massage technique focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fiber’s of the muscles, tendons. At our clinic deep tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles not with the grain. Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. However, if the massage is done correctly you should feel better than ever within a day or two.
Aromatherapy works on the basis that the smell of the essential oils trigger the limbic system – the part of the brain that seems to be linked with emotion. This is why it can affect how you feel, and help you relax. Massage helps your skin to absorb warmed essential oils; these oils improve the effectiveness of the massage in treating specific physical problems.
Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage is a blissfully relaxing form of holistic massage applied normally to the head, neck, shoulders and upper arms. Not surprisingly, it originated as part of the Ayuvedic medicine tradition in India where it has been practised for thousands of years. The head and hair are sensitive. Stroking them is pleasant and soothing. This therapy helps to relieve stress, tension headaches, eyestrain and insomnia. It also works on the bodies subtle energy to rebalance the whole person. It is based on the traditional form of Champi (head massage) practised in India for over 1,000 years.
It is a wonderfully relaxing therapy. The massage is safe, and very effective to give, without the need to undress or use oils at your request. It can provide relief from aches and pains, stress symptoms, insomnia, promote hair growth, soothe, comfort and rebalance your energy flow which gives you a deep sense of peace, calm and tranquillity.
Hot Stone Therapy
Hot stone massage is a variation on classic massage therapy. Heated smooth, flat stones are placed on key points on the body. The massage therapist may also hold the stones and use them to massage certain areas of the body. The use of hot stones for healing dates back to ancient times, but it wasn’t until Arizona introduced a hot stone massage technique, called LaStone Therapy, that the use of hot stones for massage caught on.
The hot stones are usually made of basalt, a type of rock that is rich in iron, so they retain heat. River rocks are normally used because they are so smooth – they have been smoothed over time by the river’s current.
The stones are immersed in water and heated in an electric heating device until they are within a certain temperature range. The stones may be placed at specific points on the back, in the palms of the hand, or between the toes.
The heat warms and relaxes the muscles, which allows the therapist to apply deeper pressure, if desired.
The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation and calms the nervous system.
Some massage therapists place stones on points that are thought to be energy centres of the body to rebalance the body and mind.
People also get hot stone massage for a variety of health conditions:
* Back pain and aches
* Poor circulation
* Osteoarthritis and arthritis pain
* Stress, anxiety and tension
Massage is not recommended for certain people:
* People with infectious skin disease, rash, or open wounds
* Immediately after surgery
* Immediately after chemotherapy or radiation, unless recommended by your doctor
* People prone to blood clots. There is a risk of blood clots being dislodged. If you have heart disease, check with your doctor before having a massage.
Pregnant women should check with their doctor first if they are considering getting a massage.
Hopi Ear Candle
This is an ancient and natural therapy handed down by many civilisations. It is believed that the Ancient Greeks used ear candles, initially probably for cleansing, purifying and healing on a spiritual basis, but much later on a purely physical basis. However, the practice reached the modern world via the native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona (it’s interesting to note that Hopi means peaceful people). Ear candles were used traditionally by Shamen healers. Ancient wall paintings show their importance in initiation rituals and healing ceremonies of the tribe. The candles are still made today on the basis of the old traditional formula originating from the Hopi Indians.
The candles are made from the natural ingredients of beeswax, honey extracts, sage, St Johns Wort, chamomile, beta-carotene and organically grown flax. A constant high quality is ensured.
The candles work on a chimney principle, drawing any impurities to the surface where they can be gently removed. They equalise the pressure in the head and ears, making them suitable for most conditions. Secretion flow is gently stimulated and the vapour collects and removes impurities or deposits. Most of these are carried away through the candle “chimney”, although some of them can be found in the condensed candle wax residue after removal from the ear, or could even work their way up to the surface 24-48 hours after.
Though results may vary from person to person, clients have reported Hopi Candles to be helpful with:
* Excessive or compacted wax in the ears
* Irritation in ears and sinuses
* Pressure regulation in cases of: sinusitis / rhinitis / glue ear / colds / flu / headaches / migraine
* Stimulation of local and reflex energy flow
* Energetic revitalisation in cases of hearing impairment
* Relaxing and calming effect in cases of stress
* Noises in the ears, ringing, tinnitus

Are there any side effects?
No contradictions are known to date but as a precaution, it is advisable not to use Hopi candles:
* If grommets are in place
* If there is inflammation or infection
* In the event of an allergic reaction to the contents
However, most clients find the treatment relaxing and regularly describe a €œslight relieved feeling€ in the ears and head but also a relaxing and calming effect on the whole system.
